Festival information 2023

The event is drug-free and is organized in collaboration with the study association Sensus.

Eating and drinking

Eating

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served each day in the garden from the garden kitchen The Potato Alley, see the set meals menu below.

Food is paid with Potato Tokens, see the description of tokens further down.

Cooking/Grill areas

Two small cooking/grill areas will be available, where you can prepare your own food. No cooking utensils or kitchen equipment will be available, so bring your own everything!

Drinking water tap

There will be one drinking water tap located in the garden, behind the “stones” opposite the dishwashing shelf. It will be clearly marked.

Washing dishes

Everyone is responsible to thoroughly wash up their own dishes (plates, glasses and cutlery). Please, use washing-up liquid and don’t forget to rinse all items. Follow the instructions posted by the dish-washing area. Other guest will eat from your cleaned plates later.

Accommodation

Camping

There are three areas in connection with the festival where camping is allowed. These camping areas are on land owned by local villagers who are kindly letting us use their land for camping. So please, campers, respect this situation and follow these rules:

  • Do not litter or throw garbage around the tents/camping areas.
  • Bring your waste and recycle it in the recycling system on the festival area.
  • Do not make any fires.
  • Do not smoke, except in designated areas.
  • Carefully read and understand the fire and smoking rules provided.
  • In case/risk of fire: use one of the many black, marked, designated 12 L water buckets placed around the camping areas.
  • There are hand washing and sanitizing stations on the camps. Use them for hand washing only and please save water.

No showers are available. Fancy a swim or a quick dip? Bring your swim gear and go to the beach, jump into the lake, in the river or the waterfall (take extra care).

Travelling to the festival

The festival is located in the small village Åfors located more or less in a centre between Kalmar, Växjö, and Karlskrona. Just on the crossing of roads 25 and 28 you’ll find Eriksmåla. From there it’s 2 km to Åfors, direction north-east on Glasbruksvägen.

You can travel by train to the nearest town Emmaboda. There are direct trains from Göteborg, Malmö and Kalmar. If you are coming by train from Stockholm, you have to change trains in Alvesta.

From Emmaboda you can catch a local bus to Åfors (up to four times a day; 09.30, 11.00, 12.30, and 20.35) using Kalmar Läns Lokaltrafik (https://kalmarlanstrafik.se/), but you need to call at least two hours ahead to book the trip: +46 10 2121 000.

Parking

No parking is allowed on Potatisgatan, on Glasbruksvägen, or at the camp sites.

There is a large open space behind the old glass factory in Åfors that can be used for parking on your own responsibility. GPS: 56.7470, 15.4958
Do not park on the unpaved area to the right of the factory building (behind the bus stop sign) since the boule tournament is held there.

Costs and donations

A festival of this kind cannot be arranged without any costs, unfortunately. We will sell wrist bands as admission tickets. Please note that there is a limited amount of wrist bands available for this privatly arranged festival – order your own wrist band before they are sold out!

The festival is free for children, 12 years and younger, and must be accompanied by parents, relatives, or similar. Teenagers between 13 and 15 years gets half price on admission tickets. After midnight, teenagers must be accompanied by parents, relatives, or similar.

Booked artists and live performers will receive their special wrist bands upon arrival at the festival and do not need to order the wrist bands below.

Paying for food and drink / Potato tokens

Payment for food and drink is made using the Potato Token system. You can purchase potato tokens and use them when buying food and drinks on the festival area. The tokens are purchased in bundles only using the following currencies:

Children under the age of 7 eats for free. Kids between 7 and 12 years old gets a discounted price for food.

Restrooms

There is one restroom available in the main house on Potatisgatan 3. The rest of the house is closed for festival participants.

Restrooms will also be found at Folkets hus (”people’s house”) and at the beach (badstranden).

There are also two urinoirs in the outskirts of the Garden, marked with directions and gender symbols for men and women.

Dogs

Dogs are welcome, but they must be leashed on all festival sites, on the streets in Åfors and also outside in the forest. Note that during March, 1 to August, 20 it’s absolutely forbidden to let your dog run loose. This is to preserve and protect the wild living animals and their young ones.

If you want to take your dog for a long, nice walk, you can do this on the forest road (direction north) that starts only 100 meters from the sign Kårahult. This forest road is marked on the festival map and is several km’s long without any traffic and very few people. You can take a beautiful walking tour via the Yggersryd lake and back again to Åfors (approx. 3 km).

Recycling

There is a recycling area behind the dish washing section (large wooden shelf system) with mandatory sorting of waste in several fractions such as paper, plastic, metal, compost, glass, cans, and PET bottles.

Please, sort all your waste accurately in marked containers, sacks, and boxes, according to the instructions.

Fire precaution and protection

No smoking, use of matches, lighters, candles, scent sticks, or cooking on campings stoves anywhere in the festival area, barn area, or campings. Beware of the extreme fire hazard and risks in the fields, woods, and nature.

    • there are fire extinguishers placed at the different stages, or

    • make use of the many black, marked, designated 12 L water buckets placed around the festival area, barn area, and at the campings.

Smoking areas

For smoking, please use one of the 2 designated and marked areas. One smoking spot is on the paved road outside the mainhouse and one other smoking spot is near the Barn camp under the trees just opposite the Fire station.

There are fire extinguishers placed at the different stages.

No drugs

This is a completely drug free festival. Any use of drugs, including laughing gas is strictly forbidden.

Accidents and emergencies

The festival nurse is Fatima Berthelsen, an experienced nurse for several years before and during her studies to be a midwife. Please note that for serious emergency situations, call 112 immediately.

Safety

Please note that the festival areas have been a building site for weeks up until the last minute. So, beware of building/construction parts, pieces of wood and residue on the ground: Watch your step!
This includes walking on the paths, the camps, in the barn and the surroundings. Be careful!

Mutual respect

Our festival is supposed to be a safe space for all of our guests and organizers, no matter of gender, sexuality, race, religion, political preference or life philosophy.

We do not accept any form of harassment or discrimination and we expect all of our members, guests and volunteers to actively participate in making everyone feel comfortable and welcome to enjoy the festival in peace and equality.

Do not hesitate to share your concerns or report any violations of these terms to the festival crew.
